Cinavia Named as Finalist for CONNECT's 2009 Most Innovative New Product Award
Verance's content protection standard selected by San Diego industry experts and business leaders
October 5, 2009
– San Diego, CA – Verance Corporation (http://www.verance.com), a developer of solutions that track, manage and enhance the use of media content, today announced that Cinavia™ has been chosen as a finalist in the software category for CONNECT’s 2009 Most Innovative New Product (MIP) Award.
Dubbed as San Diego’s “Oscars” for regional innovation, CONNECT’s MIP Awards recognize locally-developed, cutting-edge products covering a wide range of industries. MIP Award finalists were selected from approximately 100 entries representing a broad range of companies and Cinavia was chosen as one of four finalists in the software category. Finalists were selected by industry experts and business leaders through a rigorous screening process.
“It is a great pleasure to see Cinavia placed among the exceptional group of products that CONNECT has identified in this year’s MIP program,” said Nil Shah, chief executive of Verance. “We are grateful to CONNECT for recognizing our work and for its many contributions to the business and technology community of our region.”
Cinavia employs Verance’s proprietary audio watermarking technology to protect commercial film and video content against unauthorized use. In June 2009, Cinavia was adopted as the standard for the Blu-ray Disc™ format content protection architecture and has been licensed by Universal Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Bros. Entertainment, and Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation
Winners of the MIP Awards will be announced on December 11th at the MIP Awards Luncheon, held at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines, to an audience of over 800 of San Diego's top executives, entrepreneurs, service providers and academics.
